During 2019 the movement of Lotras’ trains across the national and international railway system, in collaboration with Mercitalia Rail, has led to a decrease of 60,000 in the number of trucks on the roads and motorways, saving about 40,000 tons of CO2.
Lotras’ contribution keep going on and strengthen itself by the pursuit of the objectives enshrined in the White Paper of the European Commission, concerning the reduction of the environmental impact on the transports. The main goal is to reduce by 2030 30% of road freight traffics covering a distance more than 300 km. In fact they must be carried out by other modality, among which the railway system, achieving an objective of 50% by 2050.
