TRENITALIA CARGO AND LOTRAS – for Southern Italy in Europe

TRENITALIA CARGO AND LOTRAS - for Southern Italy in Europe

Tomorrow the new Bari - Lyon connection starts

Foggia, February 5th 2015

This morning, in the “Sala Azzurra” of the Chamber of Commerce of Foggia, was held the convention called “La logistica che collega il Mezzogiorno in Europa, partnership Lotras  - Trenitalia Cargo (The logistic that connects Southern Italy with Europe - Lotras-Trenitalia Cargo partnership)”

The President of  Confindustria Foggia Gianni Rotice, did the honors and stated that he felt “proud to have organized the event and, even more, to see two important operators, like Trenitalia and Lotras, join to relaunch and connect Apulia to Europe, with a synergy that creates opportunity and solutions for all transport systems in Southern Italy”.

After institutional greetings by Franco Landella, the Mayor of Foggia, Francesco Miglio, the President of Foggia Province, and Fabio Porreca, the President of the Chamber of Commerce of Foggia, the debate got straight to the heart of the matter confirming that rail freight transport is a fundamental element for the development of a modern country, which creates effective benefits for the different productive sectors, with full respect of the territory and the environment.

The activities and services directly related to terminals and logistic platforms, furthermore, are a valiant opportunity not only for a more widespread internationalization of commercial movements, but also for the development of new production chains.

Armando de Girolamo, Lotras CEO stated that “the partnership with Trenitalia is the result of a continuous action aimed at creating a new system for the integration of respective competences, which has continual, frequent links from all the Southern Italy, especially from Apulia, to Central-North Europe, enabling to optimize and meet client’s necessities. Tomorrow morning the new connection Bari-Lyons starts and the goal of next months is continuing the growth path in order to expand the connected areas with other new 7 lines”. He concluded by saying that “we need to develop further the intermodality through structural subsidies, in particular in Southern Italy, since it is the most efficient instrument tool to put in contact enterprises with the use of railway and creating in this way a connection between Italy and the rest of Europe”.

For this question, the Director of Trenitalia Cargo, Mario Castaldo, asserted trenchantly “the intermodality is one of the useful solutions to give a green turning point to our Country”. “Trenitalia Cargo is developing offers both for inland terminals connected among them with the main European hubs and for the most important Italian ports, included those in the South”. “For this purpose, we hope for a system that awarded the railway which is the modality that best respects the environment by using, for example, ferrobonus: more railway, less environmental costs, to ensure a future for the new generations”.

From tomorrow on, as stated by Mr de Girolamo, a new railway connection will start for freight transports between Bari and Lyon.
