THE REPRESENTATIVE MEDAL OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE ITALIAN REPUBLIC FOR THE EDITION 2014 OF MERCINTRENO GOES TO LOTRAS

LOTRAS has received for the second time the Representative Medal of the President of the Italian Republic Giorgio Napolitano, for the 2014 edition of “Mercintreno”, an initiative promoted and organized by Federmobilità, as outstanding developer of cargo rail freight.

Renewing the success attained in 2011, the company that owns the Cargo Terminal of Foggia-Incoronata got the prestigious award “for having registered, in a context of general decline in demand for rail freight and crisis of the country – reads the citation – an increase in traffic of 58% in the last three years, ending 2013, with a movement that has exceeded 60.000 railway wagons and 3000 convoys, departing largely from the rail yard in Foggia”.

In the EUR headquarters of the Ministry for Infrastructure and Transport, the sole administrator of Lotras, Armando de Girolamo, was awarded by the Rector of Sapienza University, Luigi Frati, the Chairman of Federmobilità and Transport Councillor of the Region of Emilia Romagna, Alfredo Peri, together with CEO of Ferrovie dello Stato, Michele Mario Elia and the General Director of the Division of Trenitalia Cargo, Mario Castaldo. This bears witness to the results that the partnership with Trenitalia has meant.

“I want to share this award with my sons and with the whole corporate team, with which we share and carry out a project of multimodality that looks to Europe, thus exporting experiences and sector skills that are present in the region of Apulia and particularly in the area of Capitanata – Armando de Girolamo said – with an organization that combines business, environmental protection, innovation, research and qualified services.”

These themes, taken up again in the citation of the award, which recognizes Lotras’ high level of internationalization, investments in process and product innovation, diversification and quality of services, management, organization and optimization of all phases of transport through multimodality, focused on the railway system aiming at ecology and eco-sustainability, the strategic location for the railway traffic of agri-food, with one of the biggest European fleets of dedicated railway wagons. These are key factors of Lotras, a company based in Foggia, which has also recently got the Merit Award by SGS, an outstanding international certifying body.
